Strong quake jolts Tibet

INT42International/DisasterStrong quake jolts TibetBeijing, Sep 25 Xinhua An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale hit Tibet early Thursday, the regional seismology bureau said. There was no immediate report of casualties in the quake which hit Xigaze district in the remote Zhongba county on the border with Nepal, bureau chief Zhu Quan said.Zhu said the earthquake was one of the many aftershocks of a 6.8-magnitude quake that hit the county Aug 25. "Aftershocks generally last for a month or two, but stronger quakes are unlikely in the area." Two weeks ago, the county was jolted by two earthquakes, measuring 5.1 and 5.2, just 14 minutes apart. Earthquake experts in Lhasa said the tremors and aftershocks were probably "stress adjustments" following the devastating May 12 quake in Wenchuan county in China's southwestern province of Sichuan. --Xinhuadkg/jg152 Words25091341
